Algieri ran ran ran and still he got caught

Algieri’s game plan was terrible. He was never in the pocket long enough to throw anything and certainly not any combinations. I get it: he’s not a clinch or pocket fighter. But if you’re going to be on your toes moving in reverse, you have to either stop and pop with intent, have impeccable space and timing to catch a guy on his way in, or learn to punch moving backwards (a la Roy Jones).

Algieri sounded like he underestimated Manny (“He’s a lot shorter than I thought”) and in his post-fight interview, his praise was reluctant at best. He said that Pac was “the best at fighting like Manny Pacquiao” and had a perfect style “for his body type”. That’s some shit you say about an up and coming fighter not a n 8-division champion and future hall of famer.

Dear Algieri, you just got put on your behind by a dude almost five inches shorter than you and probably at least 10 lbs lighter walking around. You got stung even though you were straight running for 12 rounds. The one time you “sat on a hook” to deliver a little bit of power, you were on your back and your eyes looked icey as a GOT winter. Manny Pacquiao and that style and that “body type” has beat fighters tons better than you. That body type whupped your ass.
